There are many misconceptions of what participating in martial arts really involves. Choi Kwang Do is a practical martial art that anyone can do and emphasises the ideal of personal and social development and the need to give everybody the chance to learn to defend themselves. Unlike traditional martial arts time is not wasted on push ups, sit ups and other forms of fitness exercises if people want to do these they can do them at home without paying someone for the privilege. Fitness is enhanced through the practice of Choi Kwang Do and time is spent learning self defence. Stretching is performed in a relaxed fashion without forcing or bouncing movements.

Another popular misconception is that martial arts is for men only when nothing could be further from the truth, women/children and even mature students are every bit as capable as reaching the high level of proficiency and many men have learnt this the hard way. Size is not important, striking power is a combination of strength and speed, the strength smaller people sometimes lack can often be made up for with speed.

You do not have to be fit to join, CKD is progressive in learning and the required levels of fitness and flexibility will come as you train.
